Originally settled by Christian and Matilda Deardorff who received 640 acres from the Donation Land Claim Act of 1850, the area was first named Deardorff Valley, then Christilla Valley.  The name Happy Valley came into usage in the early 1900’s from advertisements for building lots in local newspapers.   The city was officially renamed Happy Valley and incorporated in 1965 and became a much larger community in the late 1990’s with plentiful new construction.

People move to Happy Valley for the mix of housing choices situated on rolling mountain land, with highly rated schools, nature parks and many dining options.
