As 2023 comes to a close, we asked members of the Move Makers team what they appreciated about 2023, and what they were looking forward to in the year to come. Here are their responses. We wish all our clients, friends, and blog readers a happy and fulfilling 2024!
Rachael:
Looking back on the year I am grateful for the milestones we celebrated as a family, my dad turning 80 and my youngest kiddo turning 18 and launching into college. I am so grateful both my parents are aging gracefully and are an active part of my life. This coming year I am looking forward to skiing the Tetons, Rockies and Little Cottonwood Canyon. I am also looking forward to our son’s graduation from Seton Hall University. We are so excited to celebrate his hard work and see what his next adventure will be!
Michael:
This year I’m grateful for finding a home at The Move Makers. My wife and I were able to take several trips, the most extended being to visit my mother and sister in England and my 20-year-old son in Denmark, where he spent a semester. As always, I’m grateful for family, good friends, good health, and a roof over my head. In 2024, I’m looking forward to continuing to create wonderful music with my Rock Voices choir, of which I’ve been a member since 2019.
Heidi:
As another year approaches its end, I’m reminded how rewarding working for The Move Makers can be. I came across a definition of Home the other day and I want to share it with you…
Home is a safe haven and a comfort zone. A place to live with our families and pets and enjoy with friends. A place to build memories as well as a way to build future wealth. A place where we can truly be ourselves.
Our clients invite us into their homes and entrust us to handle and pack their personal belongings and memories in preparation for them to leave their home to go and establish another. We assist them during this process and transition. We get to unpack their most precious and special things so they can surround themselves with what reminds them of the home they just had until where they are becomes the home they have now. That is pretty rewarding stuff !!
I wish everyone a special Christmas at home with those you care about. May the year ahead be full of everything that makes you smile.
Allison:
2023 has flown by and a few things I am grateful for is how quickly my staging company grew! Lots of challenges along the way but all for the better in terms of growth for me as a person, mom and business owner.
I am also excited for my recent home sale, creating opportunity for me to live comfortably and invest in rental properties in more affordable markets around the US. I’m In the process of buying my first out of state property! Wahoo!
I’m lucky to have made some new friends this year. Community is vital to me and I feel that I have finally found my people. I feel this too at The Move Makers. I feel supported and appreciated on this team, which is extremely rare to find in a working environment. I’m happy to have found it.
2024… GEEZ I can’t even think that far ahead. Just hoping for health, more travel and patience with my boys, and forging great friendships!
Linda:
I am thankful for the frustrations this past year, because they remind me of how much I have!
I lost my internet connection temporarily, because I HAVE internet!
The garage door opener stopped working, because I HAVE a garage!
The battery died in my car, because I HAVE a car!
The toilet needs to be cleaned, because I HAVE indoor plumbing!
I am truly blessed to be able to have all these inconveniences.
John:
For this past year I feel very grateful for the real generosity and kindness I have been shown, from either complete strangers or from new or existing friends or coworkers. Most often these acts of goodness have been shown in simple ways – such as receiving a warm and sincere greeting from someone, or by receiving mindful and focused attention from another during a conversation, or by being surprised by a very thoughtful gift(s)…such as when I recently retired from my long career from the post office and was humbled by such a warm, unexpected celebration and generosity. And just yesterday, I ventured out to a local thrift store for an hour to browse over some items. When I went to the checkout counter, a woman in her 70s was there to complete my purchase. We shared some light humor and laughs around a couple of Christmas-themed items I was buying, and a minute or so later when she gave me my receipt she looked at me and gave me such a kind, direct thank you and a warm wish for happy holidays, which just made a rare impression on me. These are truly some of the examples of what I am thankful for.
Deborah:
I am so grateful to work for The Move Makers who do amazing work. People become overwhelmed with major life changes and our team shares their talent and compassion. As people enter a new chapter of life it can be emotional and difficult for themselves and those they love. It brings me joy to see their relief at the end of the day that they did not have to face this change alone. Wishing this new year brings comfort, joy and a feeling of love.
