Within the Portland metro region but very near rural attractions,  Bethany is an unincorporated area that was first settled by Ulrich Gerber, who moved to the area from Switzerland, and established the first post office in the area in 1878. The Hebrew word “Bethany” was decided for the area, named after a nearby church.

Those who move to the Bethany area can enjoy dining and shopping in a thoughtfully zoned commerce area, the Claremont Golf Course and other attractions very close to the Sunset Highway, Route 26.
