The Move Makers 2024: A Season of Gratitude

As the year winds down, we at The Move Makers reflect on the blessings, challenges, and growth we’ve experienced in 2024. Here are some heartfelt reflections from our team:

Annie

Annie: This year, I’m reminded daily of how fortunate I am. My husband of 45 years, our two beautiful daughters, and our wonderful son-in-law fill my heart with joy. The best part of my day is breakfast with my family, where we connect deeply and talk about everything. I’m grateful for the privilege of being a mom and hold immense admiration for mothers striving against the odds. Looking ahead to 2025, my focus is on embracing a healthier life for both me and my husband.

Deborah

Deborah: As the first point of contact at The Move Makers, I’ve met countless families navigating life’s most overwhelming transitions—whether it’s a cross-country move, a downsizing effort, or a fresh start. It’s humbling to see their relief as we provide compassionate guidance and solutions. I’m endlessly thankful for a team that approaches
every challenge with kindness, patience, and determination. In 2025, I look forward to continuing this meaningful work with a group of colleagues who bring thoughtfulness to every step of the journey.

Sandra:
There’s so much to be thankful for—365 days’ worth! I owe a special thanks to Michael, our dedicated blogger, for nudging me to share my gratitude. I’m grateful for technology (most of the time!) for leading me to The Move Makers, where I’ve found fulfillment in meeting incredible people and building connections. I thrive on learning from others, both here and in my other role as a dental hygienist. 2025 promises to be another year of growth, happiness, and success!

Allison: This year has been full of adventures. My kids and I explored stunning new places, with Nelson, BC, standing out as a favorite. I grew my business through collaborations with amazing agents and leaned on an incredible friend network. I’m especially thankful for my partner. We were able to connect this fall, after meeting two years ago. Now we’re joyfully planning our future, raising the boys, traveling, and laughing through it all. 2025 holds so much promise, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Michael: I’m deeply grateful for my Move Makers family. Their kindness and support after my mother’s passing in October sustained me more than words can express. Looking ahead, 2025 marks a major milestone: becoming an empty nester! After 23 years with kids in Portland Public Schools, my wife and I are ready to embrace the peace, quiet, and opportunities for travel that this new chapter will bring.

Linda

Linda: Early this year, I was diagnosed with mold toxicity, and I discovered the source was in my home. After months of treatment and remediation, I’m incredibly thankful to be healthier and symptom-free. During the remediation, I was fortunate to find a place to live at no charge, and was able to pay for the work without taking out a loan. While it was disruptive, the experience taught me invaluable lessons about resilience and adaptability. As I move back home, I’m looking forward to carrying these lessons into 2025 with a renewed sense of purpose.

Sharon.

Sharon: This year, I’m grateful for the chance to be part of such a fun and supportive team at The Move Makers. We make one of life’s most stressful experiences—moving—a little easier for our clients. Personally, I’ve cherished watching my son in Denver thrive as a kind, thoughtful adult and celebrating the good health of my 88-year-old mom and her partner. My partner and I continue to enjoy adventures in nature, and I’m surrounded by wonderful friends. Here’s to more joy and connection in 2025!

Heidi

Heidi: I am thankful to work at a job where what we do makes a difference. I am thankful that I work side by side with caring people who also want to make a difference.  2025 will be full of opportunities to make a difference. Let’s grab them all.

Zachary

Zachary: We all have our own paths, mine has been pursuing a career as an artist. That path brought me to Portland at the beginning of the pandemic. The only work I could find was word-of-mouth “helping people”. I met one person, then another and another. It was very specific work too: helping my fellow humans clean, organize and move. There’s a pattern here. In the spring of this year, I began working at The Move Makers and that’s precisely what we do: we help people. Simply put, it feels good to be of service. There’s a hand at play here, and it’s not my own. I’m thankful for that.
